The Fandom Gives Back

Hey everyone! I know its been awhile since an episode, but rest assured one is the works and will be released as soon as is possible.

Meanwhile I'm sure you've heard of this already but just in case you haven't, the whole fandom is banding together for a good cause. Here is the official letter from the wonderful women who have organised this incredible effort:

Dear friends, fans, and followers,

Did you know that every year over 200,000 children worldwide are diagnosed with a form of childhood cancer? We cannot ignore this shocking statistic impacting the youth of the world, and we certainly hope that you won’t either. We need your help.

Starting Nov. 15th, through Nov. 20th, you will have the opportunity to help in the fight against childhood cancer. We haven't set a monetary goal because we're firm in the belief that no matter what we set, you will surpass it.

Running this virtual stand is the biggest challenge we have ever faced – the challenge of raising awareness of just how serious the epidemic of childhood cancer is.

The money raised will go to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer, a 501(c)3 public charity, to fund childhood cancer research projects. The mission of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is to raise funds and awareness of childhood cancer causes, primarily to support research into new cures and treatments; to encourage and educate others, especially children, to raise money for childhood cancer by holding their own lemonade stands; and to expedite the process of finding new cures and treatments, and bringing them to children with cancer now.

I'm here checking in from an unnervingly sunny London to remind/inform/harrass y'all about the September Support Stacie Auction

Basically, the Support Stacie Auction is an awesome panfandom fundraiser where the good and great of fanfic authors come together to try and raise money for a woman called Stacie who suffers from ovarian and breast cancer:

In March 2007, Stacie Holeman, known as truelovepooh in fandom and on LJ, was diagnosed with breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Because she was within the 90-day enrollment period of her new medical insurance, Stacie has been forced to join the ranks of millions of uninsured Americans. (read the rest)

The Way It Works
Author X pledges to write a fanfic of Y number of words and put it up for auction. Readers bid for it. The reader with the highest bid is then allowed to produce a list of specifications for the fic, which the author has to comply to. The end product: A totally personalised fanfic for the highest bidder by one of their favourite authors and lots of money raised for charity.

It works like any auction- you only pay if your bid wins. In other words, if you part with your hard earned cash you can be safe in the knowledge that not only are you helping an excellent cause, but you'll also receive an excellent piece of fanfiction as a reward! A pretty win/win situation, I think you'll agree!

Fanart Contest

Ok, here are all the rules and specifics written out for everyone for our fanfiction fanart contest.

1. All art must be of a Twilight fanfiction, not the canon (this can be smudged for AUs that overlap)

2. Any kind of drawing/painting/etc or photo manipulation is acceptable. No fanvids or anything like that, though.

3. It does not have to be a "banner" for a story. You can make them any size, any shape, any theme as long as they are PG13 and can fit as an attachment to an email. We will take anything from icons to wallpapers, from portraits to collages. Anything!

4. All entries must be sent to temptationtwilight@gmail.com by August 10th, with "Fanart Contest" in the subject line.

5. Include the name of the story that inspired the art, and the name of the author of that story.

Leave any questions in the comments and I will answer them for you.

Also, you can enter as many times as you like, we just ask that you send each entry in its own email, and let us what story its based on and who the author of that story is.

PSA ALERT: Invisible Children

Hey all! Danielle here.

Now, you would all be listening to this instead of having to read about it, but as the podcast is delayed for now...(see post below)...then that's not happening, and I want to give you guys time to think about it and plan.

Alright, I don't know if anyone has ever heard of Invisible Children, but it's a documentary, an organization, and a crisis in Africa. It's the issue of child soldiers in regions such as Uganda and Sudan, being forced to fight in a war that's been raging for 20 years over there, under the terror of Joseph Kony, who's the main man behind all the atrocities.

Invisible Children was started by three guys who went to Africa during a summer break in college I believe, and ended up being so moved and affected by the situation that they saw with their own eyes that they decided to do what they could to help resolve it. They made documentaries to increase awareness, and the main 50-minute documentary is one that you can watch online, and it will explain it to you far better than I ever can (and help motivate you to participate far better than I ever could either.)

So now you might be asking, Wait Danielle...participate in what?

Ahahaha! Excellent question my friends.

This Saturday, in thousands of cities, in 10 different countries, Invisible Children will be hosting it's THIRD rally since it's founding. You can learn what exactly that will entail here: The Rescue Plan

These rallies are important, and more than that, EFFECTIVE. Yes, believe or not, we can actually make a difference; it's true!

In the first rally held by them in 2006, they were able to gather enough support and write enough letters to our respective governments that night commuting - a ritual that children in the conflict areas of Africa had to do EVERY SINGLE NIGHT in order to keep themselves safe from abduction by Kony - was put to an end because our government's FINALLY stepped in.

In the second rally held by them in 2007, The United States finally elected an official negotiator/ambassador in charge of this problem directly, and truly that has made all the difference. I also can't explain to you what a big accomplishment that is, but believe me, it is one.

What's going to happen at this third rally? Well, that's up to us to decide. Our support and our sheer numbers are what makes a difference. That's what tells our governments to get their focus on this crisis. It's what alerts people in general to this conflict that hardly anybody knows about but has been raging for TWENTY years. That's ridiculous. This needs to come to an end.

So this Saturday, go to a rally near you and help save the Invisible Children.

Delay...for a good reason

So, we totally recorded this weeks episode early and I was so excited to get it to you as soon as possible but then we got an email.

Now, this email arrived to us from our podcast hosts on the 18th, saying that because of a change that was going on we could not upload any episodes after the 19th until we get an email from them saying we can.

This is a good thing because we wanted to make this change anyway. It's not so good because they didn't really give us much of a warning. Oh well, life happens when you're not paying attention.

So, basically our feed is going to change. Which, if you don't understand I'm not explaining, that's a whole 'nother kettle of fish. What you do need to know is that this will not affect you at all if you download directly from the links we put up. And they tell us that you will not notice if you are subscribed through iTunes. Still, please be on the look out, if there does seem to be a problem please let us know so we can fix it. If you are subscribed directly to our feed, you will need to resibscribe as that feed will no longer exist. Again, they tell us that they are putting in the redirect tag so its possible that everything will be fine. but I make no guarentees.

So, when episode 14 is released, please let us know if they are any problems so we can come down on their asses. Thanks muchly!

Hey everyone, I just wanted to post a quick reminder that entries for our audio fanfiction contest are due in tomorrow (March 31st) by midnight PST. We are overwhelmingly surprised and happy with the response we've gotten and I can't wait to share the awesome work everyone has done with...well...everyone.

Meanwhile, episode 12 has been recorded and will hopefully be out soon. It is my last week of school, so I'm a little busy. I'm aiming for Wednesday, though.

While recording we forgot to mention that, along with a fun guest host next week, our main discussion will be on slash fic (can you guess who picked out that topic?) and if you like you can comment here or email us with and questions or topics you'd like us to include in that discussion.

Ustream Fail, How I Hate Thee

So... who remembers that time when we said we were going to have this live episode and then record it so others could listen to it later?

Well, if you were there for the epic failure known as our first live episode attempt, you know what I'm about to say. If you weren't, I'm sorry in advance.

We didn't record it. Actually, we could only get Claire and me on the 'air' for the announcements.

The winners will be posted on the Eddies and Bellies site soon, so don't fret if you didn't hear who won. (I'll give you a hint, though. 'Wide Awake' is a very popular story.)

However, we are going to put together the recordings that we (the co-hosts) did of each other's stories for you guys to enjoy at home. Then we'll put up a poll on this page, asking you to vote on your favorite recording. This is separate from the reader audio fanfiction contest we're running. It's just kind of a fun little thing we did because we didn't want to be left out.

Audio Faniction Contest Part 2

A listener email us with some questions about the contest and I thought I would post the answer's here in case others were wondering.

Q. Can we submit multiple entries?
A. Yes. We will be picking a judges pick as well as a winner based on votes so if you enter twice you are only eligible for one win. So, if you get the most votes your other one will not get judges pick.

Q. Can we read something of our own?
A. I don't see why not.

Q Can we collaborate?
A. I'm going to say no for this one. If the contest goes well we will do another similar one later specifically for collaborations.

Send any othe questions to us and we would be more than happy to answer.

Audio Fanfiction Contest

As you've heard on the recent Temptation episodes we are hosting our first ever listener contest! Yay! In this contest we are asking people to record themselves reading an excerpt from their favourite fanfiction (or one that they think works well with being read out loud) and send it in to us. We will then play all of the entries in an episode, put a poll up here on the website and you will get to vote for your favourite. We may also pick a judges favourite and have two winners. We're not quite sure yet. Probably though.

Here are the rules, please make sure to read them all if you are in violation (that sounds so serious) your entry will not be aired on the podcast.

All entries must be sent into temptationtwilight@gmail.com
All entries must be received by midnight PST on March 31st.
Please have "Audio Fanfiction Contest" in the sybject line of any entries emailed to us.

In the body of the email you must include the name of the fanfiction, the author of the fanfiction, a link to the story, and short blurb on why you chose it.
The section you read must be rated PG13 or lower but the fic itself can be rated anything you like.

The hosts have recorded four example pieces that will on the end of episode ten. And please remember that we are interested in your performance, in how you translate the written word to the spoken word. Keep this in mind when choosing what section to read and show off your talents.

Eddies/Bellies Update

For those of you who wanted more time to read the stories nominated for the Eddies and Bellies... guess what? You've got it!

Limona and WtVoC have decided to extend voting for another week, ending on March 4th instead of tomorrow.

This decision was mostly made because of all the ff.net fail (anyone else having problems signing in?), but I think they've also realized how hard it is for one person to read all those great stories in just one week.

Sadly, this also means the live Awards Announcement episode we were planning on having this Saturday night isn't going to happen. We'll let you guys know when it's going to take place, since we still need to talk about it amongst ourselves.

In other news, episode 9 is being worked on, but apparently Audacity's hatred toward Claire wasn't cleared up last week when she apologized for calling it a dumb, b****y, piece of s***. Also something about siccing a virus on it if it didn't start behaving... Audacity's very sensitive about things like that. Who knew?

We'll get it up as soon as we can.

And don't forget about our first listener contest! I know it's not nearly as exciting as Psymom's new fanfic contest (*sigh* How I wish I was that creative...), but it's still cool in its own right.

So, here are the things for y'all to do: (in no particular order)
1. Read all the great stories nominated for an Eddie or Bellie, and then vote
2. Record yourself reading a passage from one of your favorite fanfics
3. Glare at ff.net's log in screen when it denies you admittance for the hundredth time
4. Keep an eye out for our 9th episode and when the live episode's going to take place

Couple of Things

So, we recorded an awesome episode but, once again, Audacity hates Claire. I'm also very busy at school this week so we aren't quite sure when this episode is going to be out. Sorry for the delay.

Also, our live show with limona (Christina) and withthevampsofcourse (Kristen) is scheduled for 6:30 PST on Saturday February 28th. It will be taking place on Ustream, our page can be found here
If it so happens that we cannot figure out how to use Ustream (can you feel the professionalism we have?) we may keep voting up for another week while we do our best to figure it out.

But, I think everything will be fine and the show will go off, more or less, as planned. Make sure to tune in as we will be takingyour questions from the chat window. Plus, you'll get to chat with other awesome ...er...Twilight Fanfiction People. We need a name. Or something.

And, as detailed in the upcoming episode, we are hosting our very first contest! Yay!
I will make a more detailed post with all of the rules and dates and such involved after the episode is out, but just so you can start thinking about what you are going to do, I thought I'd mention is briefly now.

The Audio Fanfiction Contest!

Pick your favourite part of your favourite Twilight Fanfiction story (as long as it is rated PG-13 or lower) and record yourself reading it. Send it us in an email with "Audio Fanfiction Contest" in the subject line. In an upcoming episode we will play all the submissions (so, you know, it would be great if we got a bunch) and you, the listener, will get to vote for your favourites! The winner will get to come on an episode.

We're really excited about this contest and are eagerly looking forward to hearing your readings. And I just wanted to mention that if we've invited you on an episode, you aren't eligible to win this contest. If you want to do it, you're welcome to...but you can't win. This includes, but is not limited to, any and all admin at The Lazy Yet Discerning Ficster (seriously, you're like our, mostly, more mature, possibly older, sibling. Any of you is welcome any time), wtvoc, limona, Halojones, etc.

We may, or may not, think up something for second and third place.

I completely forgot to put something in the news. We will definately have it next week but I thought I'd make a post about here.

The Twilight Gift Exchange, from what I understand, is a happy place one can go to, where you sign up to write or create something from an anonymous prompt that is given to you. In return your prompt is anonymously given to someone else for them the create something for you. At the end, when everyone has completed their creations, we all share and enjoy the amazing results.

The Awesome GinnyW has set up a community here and I highly suggest you check it out. Not only do you get to enjoy something tailor made from your prompt, but (again, from what I understand) you get to see everyone else's as well.

For rules, and a much more in depth explanation with people who are absolutely sure they've not misunderstood the whole thing (even though its been explained to them twice now...) visit the community. Here's the link again:

Danielle was one of my first "online" friends in the Twilight community. Her writing always touches me and I have nothing but respect for how she puts up with being my beta. She is an awesome addition to the team here at Temptation, always offering fun and intelligent conversation to our episodes. Death's Daughter by GreekBee
Rating: PG-13
Summary: What if Bella was the supernatural creature, and not Edward? Bella isn't a vampire though - she's the child of Death herself - and she's just convinced her mother to let her move to the tiny, rainy town of Forks.

Edward's a harmless human, going about his normal daily life with his less than sane family when he see's the new girl.

Will love blossom between a human and Death's daughter? Will their relationship survive? More importantly, will they survive?

I wasn't sure about this fanfiction at first. I think the summary put me off slightly- I'm not a massive fan of really AU fanfics, and this one seemed to fall under that category. However, when I read it, I was totally taken in.

First off, the preface is AWESOME. It's one of those 'give a glimpse of the end before the beginning' deals, and GreekBee does it so so well. She manages to drop in enough information to hook her readers without giving away anything too crucial.

The very first line:

I looked across the cold floor of the warehouse, which was currently coated in blood. So this is what they mean by massacre, I thought, sickened.

...and that was when I knew this was going to be really fun to read. 'Cause, let's be honest, who doesn't like a bit of blood'n'guts action. We read vampire fanfiction, after all.If you're anything like me, your first reaction to that line was: 'OHMYGODWHODIED?!'.

I also really liked the first chapter. Bella is the daughter of death (no-brainer really) and, although this really turned me off at first (I have an issue with supernatural!Bella) I think that GreekBee writes it really well. The first chapter is written in the third person and narrated in a style which makes it almost feel like the opening of a fairy-tale. It kind of reminds me of greek mythology too:

...She is stands alone, still condemning herself to the dark, to the shadows that haunt the night. The dark has no beginning and no end, just black. The light stretches wider, further, seemingly in an effort to reach the pale, porcelain skin of her ethereal beauty...

Wow.

Hey guys! This is cdunbar on Twilighted and FanFiction and I was graciously invited to be a co-host on this lovely podcast. I just got done adding my bit to the second episode.

I'm really excited to be a part of this and I hope I can add something to the discussions, rather than just be another voice you hear (and, oh god, do I hate the sound of my voice!). Sadly, I don't really read many canon stories, so I didn't have much to add this time. But I hope to fix that with the third episode.

The second episode is coming... either later today or tomorrow.

Update on First Episode

I just thought I'd give y'all an update.

Our first episode is about 80% done and we are doing everything in our power to get it out tomorrow.

We've already had some good discussion and some laughs, I think the first episode is going to be awesome. And once we get one under our belts the rest should come a little quicker.

Just to keep your tastbuds tingling heres a line said by one of us during the recording:

What We Are All About

Hi everyone!

We are three fanfiction authors who came up with the idea to record a podcast all about fanfiction which, as of yet, had not been done in the Twilight fandom. Our aim is to produce a podcast with quality segments, including interviews with authors and readers, news in the community, reviews and discussions on stories, recomendations, contests, and analyse of some of the cliches and staples of the Twilight fanfiction community.

Currently we have three hosts: Caitlin, Claire, and Danielle. If you wish to get to know us a little you can click on our user names in the About us section to see our profiles and check out the stories we have written. I leave it up to you to figure out which screen name goes with which author.
