Hey guys. Awesome episode. I absolutely adore Amelia's accent, it is soo cute. Anyways, the story "Past and Present", i think there are two authors who could have possibly written it. There is one GiveUsAKiss413, who is more probable and second is Scarlet-Passion. So just thought I'd help you out with that.

P.S keep rocking and I am LOVING the random-ness

Okay I've been working on my 'Twilight Fan Fictionary' and it is almost complete. I'll send it your way when it's finished if you like, and thanks for the suggestions on other places to look, I'll pass those along to my little sis.

Good episode!

Howdy. Enjoyed the podcast, especially hearing Amelia's wonderful Southern accent. She sounds like me. Ha.

I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents on AU, having read in a various fandoms for the past 15 years or so. "Alternate Universe" is really a generic term rather than a specific term. Anything that diverges from canon is AU. So all human isn't different from AU, but a specific type of AU. :-) I've heard this sort of thing called "elsewords" as well, where it's a different world (ours, one without vampires) but the same characters.

Crossovers are a type of AU as well, that blends worlds. Parallel canon is a story wherein something (usually something fairly significant) is different, but otherwise the story follows fairly close to canon -- like say a rewrite of the Twilight storyline wherein Jacob was to imprint early (not on Renesme) and no longer had a romantic interest in Bella, but otherwise, events of New Moon/Eclipse occurred as depicted.

Divergent AU is where an event changes and everything else goes in a different direction, like the "Road Less Traveled." The New Moon AUs where Edward doesn't return and everything goes differently are an example of that. Radical AUs are similar but they tend to use the canon elements in different ways to construct a different story rather than going off in a new direction entirely -- but they're not parallel canon, either.

There are also reversal-AUs ... stories wherein the characters trade characteristics. E.g., in Twilight where Bella is the vampire and Edward the human, or in X-Men like the Powerswap challenge, where the characters are still mutants, but have different powers.

Crackfic is generally used for a story with something truly crazy about it. Most crackfic isn't meant to be serious.

So yeah, LOTS of different types of AUs, and which become popular depends. For instance, all-human AUs are very popular in Twilight, but not that popular in Harry Potter or X-Men. By contrast, X-Men have stories about mutants who are not the canon characters, but are still mutants. I think that's because in Twilight, a lot of fans are more interested in the characters and romance than the world, so whether or not vampires are involved doesn't matter. X-Men fans are SF fans, so take away the mutant element and there's nothing to hold them.

So AU is a very general term, which is then broken down into different types of AU, and which of these become popular depends not only on the fandom, but the fans in the fandom. :-)

I fixed the story links, so hopefully you will be able to locate the story you want to check out.

Jax, can't wait to see your fictionary!

Thanks Minisinoo for clarifying the whole AU debacle. It's hard to define something that encompasses so much.

Thank you for fixing the links, I've found the stories and added them to my neverending list of fics i need to read! Thanks!!

Hey guys, just stopped by to check out the new episonde. I think it's awesome and probably the most entertaining. The link for the Lion and The Lamb awards isn't working and I kinda want to check out the site.

I'm not certain the Lion and the Lamb thing is being updated, despite its claim. I sent in several nominations two weeks ago, and several of my readers gave me a quick note around the same time to let me know that they had nominated me, but these all are yet to appear on the list.
Can somebody go hijack the twilighted awards and get that rolling again?

Here's the bit in the GQ RPatt article...

"And he admits to reading it, which is the really weird part. He reads the gossip blogs and the Twilight fan fiction (“It’s surprisingly hard-core. And very well written”)"

Great podcast and Thanks for all the recs.

Ugh, the GQ article... That picture with him in the boots and tight jeans, leaning against the wall behind him...

I died. D-E-D died.

It makes me want to be 10 years younger so I can hang it up beside my Hanson and JTT posters!

Hey, ladies. Another funny podcast under your belt, sorry you had so many complications. I missed Danielle & Claire. However, Amelia was a fabulous addition. "Oops, I probably shouldn't have said that!" had me laughing so hard. Just curious, is she a Southern chic as well? Yes, I am still "like a baby" in the fanfic world. I always come into everything late-- I suck. I loved how my one question led into like a 10 minute tangent on meeting other authors on threads & how the awe of the reputation may proceed them (and cliques in school & on message boards and Christine wanting to be with the Emo group or figuring she fit in with the nerds- had me giggling), but thanks for clearing up my question. Can't wait for the next podcast! Also, the little bullshit like picking up his damn shoes always start the biggest fights, so I understood exactly what Amelia was talking about, poor men. (But, to our defense, they can be asses at times, too. Rock on, ladies!!!

Thank You LADIES!!!! I am so thrilled you enjoyed my accent if not the rants ;)....I can talk about nada for days.

Funny thing -- I grew up in the San Francisco area and have been in Nashville (where I finished my nursing) with my mother's family for eight years. I guess my accent is an annoying blend of Valley and Southern ;). I guess its easy for me to switch up because I grew up in a Filipino household and when I'm visiting my Dad -- here comes the clipped words. I did spend a month here in Nashville and Florida (and a month in Cali, month in Hawaii) each summer growing up -- so you could say I'm a bi-coastal child. Kinda like latchkey. BAHAHAHAAH!

So yes -- I am a southern & westerner and a bit of an island valley gal. So thank you all it was a blast and I can't wait to do it again.

Oh and yes, I do cuss that much.

The men thing is so very very true!

You're right, that Fictionary is so much better than mine. Thanks for putting up the Newbie Resource! My Mini-Me says thanks too!

Hey guys, congrats on another great episode (despite the technical difficulties)! Obviously I missed Claire and Danielle (can't wait to get home and download their mini-ep) but Amelia is an absolute gem! You should certainly invite her back sometime!

A question occurred to me when Caitlin said she'd started reading a story but stopped because she wasn't really enthused. How important is the first chapter of a story in determining whether or not you'll read the rest? Do you need to be sucked in right away? Or do you give the author some leeway to set the scene before diving into the drama/action? How many chapters do you usually read before giving up on a story if you don't like it?

Anyway, thanks again for the great job you all do. When you were talking about how much rubbish fanfic there is out there I was thinking that it's been forever since I read something I didn't like, given that pretty much everything I read is recommended by you guys or TLYDF. Life is too short to waste on crap stories, so thanks again for your valuable service to the community. You rock! :-D

Thank you soooo much for the Fic of the Week pick -- "Creature of Habit". I absolutely love it, and only found it thanks to you! I've been reading waaaay to many AH stories lately, and they are good, but nothing beats a good AU-Vampire story. It feels so much closer to the real characters and all the good things that made Stephanie Meyer's original stories so magical.

Thanks again ladies! Fantastic show, as always (even with the technical problems).
