Hey everyone, I just wanted to post a quick reminder that entries for our audio fanfiction contest are due in tomorrow (March 31st) by midnight PST. We are overwhelmingly surprised and happy with the response we've gotten and I can't wait to share the awesome work everyone has done with...well...everyone.
Meanwhile, episode 12 has been recorded and will hopefully be out soon. It is my last week of school, so I'm a little busy. I'm aiming for Wednesday, though.
While recording we forgot to mention that, along with a fun guest host next week, our main discussion will be on slash fic (can you guess who picked out that topic?) and if you like you can comment here or email us with and questions or topics you'd like us to include in that discussion.
Again, thank you so much for your response to the contest, it just makes me want to hold more! See you all soon!

Hey...in regards to next week's topic, there's a new thread over on the Twilighted forums you might like to check out. It's entitled 'Slash and YOU' and brings up a number of very interesting points - including a link to an article which discusses the morality of it (particularly in terms of Christianity):

Looking forward to the next episode! And good luck with the technology this week lol :)
Slash for next week! YAY! Ever since I've read 'All I Ever Knew' By Manyafandom I have been looking for good slash. I can't wait to see your suggestions.
Hey, I'm looking forward to the discussion since slash is something new to me...I first started reading it in All I Ever Knew, before that I was like NO WAY and now I read a couple, specifically 'Over The Top' by starfish422. A question to you all is do you ever think that this is in any way tarnishing the original character pairings so to speak? As though if we don't have them in canon, are they really anything to do with twilight at all, just random characters? This isn't my personal view but I can see some people having this outlook, especially on slash.
If I may comment on the above comment (which I know isn't the view of the person who wrote it, but I also know is a view that many people have about slash). I don't think slash tarnishes the original character pairings any more than any other alternate pairing does.
I mean I know there are some people who want an all or nothing approach to canon pairings. They prefer they stay in canon always. Which is fine with me, it is a personal preference issue and everyone is entitled to what they like or don't like in a story. I don't particularly understand the rabid anger over anyone who strays from canon though (which I have seen sometimes from people in reviews and such). Actually I think the rabid anger over non-canon sort of takes a turn into crazy town, but that is another topic.
I've been branching out to more non-canon pairings with good recs and I find if the story is well written, I don't care who is paired up.
But if you are fine with say a Japser/Bella pairing fic, but think that a Jasper/Edward fic is ruining the canon or is some sort of Twilight abomination makes absolutely no sense to me.
To me I guess love is love, no matter who it is between. Sex is sex, no matter who it is between. While I'm sure there are people who may not get all hot and horny over a m/m or f/f pairing the same way they do over a m/f pairing, it is just personal preference. Just because it doesn't float your boat doesn't mean it is tarnishing anything, it just means it doesn't float your boat. There are plenty of things in the fandom that don't do it for me, but I don't summarily dismiss the entire genre either. Also there are times where I've been rec'd a fic that is about something outside of my comfort zone and ended up like loving every word of it and glad that I stepped outside of my comfy bubble.
I think slash often just gets a wave of the hand and dismissed with a "oh, *I* don't read SLASH". I don't get it. I just don't. Is there bad slash fic out there? Absolutely, but that doesn't mean it is all badly written. If I let any badly written pairing ruin a genre for me, I'd never read another fanfiction again. I've honestly yet to hear a really good explanation for dismissing the whole realm really, at least one that I can say "oh okay, I can see where you are coming from". Not all slash fics out there even have graphic sex in them. Even if they do, is gay sex really all that shocking or "out there"? I mean I just don't think it is.
I would also argue that Over the Top or Beauty Shining in Company... are as well written as ANYTHING in the fandom, I'd challenge anyone to tell me otherwise. So really the people who refuse to read it simply because it is about two men are the ones who are missing out.
