Why don't you put down the news in the show notes!?

What was the link to fanfiction news site? My memory is very bad.

The reason I don't put the news in the shownotes is because it takes awhile to write up the shownotes and I'm usually doing it at one in the morning. I will from now on though. Really, it was just stupid of me not to.

Also I believe the site you are looking for is http://twificnews.com

Sorry it took me so long to respond.

Bah. Just listened to three in a row. I'm sure you realize that your podcast is an infomercial for what this group of people thinks are the "popular authors", discussing the same stories and authors over and over and over with a few random picks mixed in. Like we need to talk about semi-popular fandom stories that haven't updated in months simply because they're your friends. As a service to this fandom, you should probably stop pretending like this is highschool and partner with TLYDF to find the next gem, not discussing the same mediocre stories from authors in your chat box.

I agree with this to a point. There is some repetitiveness in the fics mentioned, but I think it's unfair to expect brand new fic recs every week. No one can read everything. The solution is simple, have less shows. I would prefer one show a month to one every week if the quality of the single show was excellent. I do agree that the fics that are already popular don't need the publicity. I do like that the podcast tries to have lots of guests, but I do understand why that would feel clique-y to listeners. That's just the way it is. Overall, I think the ladies do a nice job. I keep listening, so they must be doing something right.

Yeah... okay, so, it's clear that the Twilight fandom is built on cliques. Most of these people are products of their younger, probably similar selves where they found popularity to be the key to how good something is or how 'cool' they are.

The truth is, there is no point in having a podcast that discusses the same authors and fics over and over. In reality, there are too many of these websites period, and TLYDF is just as "clique-y" as this website.

Not that this is a bad thing, necessarily, as they have a target audience: themselves and their friends. Why would they talk about those they don't like?

It's all very sad. Oh well. They haven't updated in a while anyway.

I don't think it's quite that dramatic. It's fanfiction. It's supposed to be fun. Of course it's cliquey. It couldn't function otherwise. That's how clubs work. I am disappointed there has been no updates, not even a notice of hiatus. Where'd you go girls?

Anonymous Says :

The degree that this fandom takes it too is that dramatic. Where have you been? It's absolutely horrible how bad it is.

People are afraid of leaving a constructive review on a popular author in fear of being harassed. Any chance a story has at becoming popular really depends on whether it gets into 'the big group's' good graces - and you can clearly see how they all mention each other in their fics.

It is supposed to be for fun. Too bad most of these people are just plain pathetic and know how to ruin that.

I don't think there's anything wrong with cliques. There's so much twilight fics out there, people kind of have to band together or get lost! Even as a reader, I find myself following reccommendations from authors of stories I like and then the story I was initially reading gets reccommended back. Id don't really seen an issue as long as everyone is getting what they want out of the experience.

What I really enjoy about the podcast is that, while some of the reccommendations are repetitive, they try not to be negative. If there is negative criticism it's usually in the form of "I don't like this but can appreciate why someone else might". If you find it repetitive, then just don't listen to every episode (or at all)! I know when I am really loving a story, I talk about it a lot, too.

No one is talking about the podcast.

We're talking about the fandom.

And if you think nothing is wrong with cliques, then you are still stuck in an immature pre-teen mentality.

I teach pre-teens for a living, so I guess their mentality must be rubbing off on me. The point I was trying to make is that, in this context, I don't think there's anything wrong with people who associate with each other because they share common interests and opinions. And, as huge as Twilight fanfiction is, there is bound to be "cliques"; it's impossible to be friends with everybody. While there is definitely negativity and immaturity, I have seldom encountered it and find it's pretty easy to avoid. I've never been afraid to leave constructive criticsm on a popular story and have had the experience that most authors are appreciative of honest feedback.

And, as far as I can tell, other than two posts before mine, everyone was talking about the podcast.
